It was built between 1585 and 1627, it is in the Italian Renaissance style and was the first stone church in La Serena. Its construction was difficult and expensive since the limestone came from Peñuelas Alto and the woods from Ovalle.
It is located at 640 Balmaceda street, Eduardo de La Barra corner.
Santiago-La Serena: Air and land routes. Leave La Serena on the road that leads through the Elqui Valley, to the east. The road passes through the towns of Vicuña (66 km from La Serena), and Rivadavia at kilometer 83. At this point, turn off onto a path to the right, until the end of the route, where Pisco Elqui is located, in the kilometer 103. The whole road is paved.
It is a current testimony of the colonial era and was declared a National Monument in 1977. In its oldest part is the Museum of Religious Art, which is currently closed for repairs.
In front of the church there is a small square with a pergola and a central basin, which forms a harmonious set with the temple.
