At the beginning of the 19th century it was known as Los Corrales del Alto. The wagons of merchandise that used to meet in Plaza Independencia, began to meet in it, after the Fruit Market was installed in it in 1859.
In August 1865, the Constitución railway station was inaugurated. The fruit market and the carts continued until 1885, when the mayor Torcuato de Alvear modified the square so that it became a promenade with many trees, gardens, a ruined castle, and an artificial lake with a small bridge.
It has two statues:
One in homage to Juan José Castelli, inaugurated on May 20, 1910; and another to Juan Bautista Alberdi, inaugurated on August 29, 1964.
It is located in the heart of the Constitución neighborhood.
It is located on Avenida Brasil, and is also surrounded by Lima Oeste, Lima Este and Constitución streets.
Next to the square are the Constitución station of the C subway line, as well as the Constitución station of the General Roca Railway.
The Plaza de la Constitución, better known as Plaza Constitución, is one of the main squares in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
