The Recoleta Dominica temple was solemnly inaugurated on November 25, 1882, with its godfathers heroes of the Pacific War, such as Manuel Baquedano and the famous mayor of the time, Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna. Meanwhile, the cloister located next to it was completed in 1888.
It is located at Recoleta Nº 686 Street.
From the outskirts are visible the great dome and the walls that face the Recoleta Street. The building is of lime and brick, with a Roman-Corinthian portico supported by 8 large white marble columns.
The interior of the church is one of Chile's most beautiful artistic ensembles. In its creation, no expense was spared, as it is verifiable in its dimensions, paintings, marble columns, etc.
Due to the importance of the work, the year 1974 was declared a National Monument. Today you can visit him on Mass Day, but above all there is a new possibility that has been opened with the fulfillment of an old Dominican desire: the Recoleta Dominica Heritage Center. This cultural endeavor includes not only the temple and its convent, but also a host of treasures such as the huge old church library, the Dominican historical museum and the museum of decorative arts.
