The territory that today occupies the municipality of Dos quebradas, was inhabited at the time of discovery and conquest, by the tribe or nation of the Quimbaya aborigines.
This territory was discovered by Captain Jorge Robledo, upon entering said province upon his return from Arma in the year 1540.
He went with some soldiers from Irra to explore the highlands that lay to the southwest. The Cacique Cananao ruler of Irra, fearful of the proximity in his territory of the Christians or Spaniards, went out to meet him and as if to seek friendship and give it a good welcome, he gave him a large gold vessel in the shape of a cap, coming, according to statements of the chief of a tribe whose lords "served themselves with gold and had pots and all services in gold" This was the first time that Robledo learned of the existence of the Quimbayas.
These statements aroused the interest of the Spanish in this territory. It should be noted that the Quimbaya empire, which populated part of what is now Valle del Cauca, Risaralda, part of Caldas and all of Quindío, was made up of some 80,000 aborigines, with a well-organized government and a millenary culture, contrary to the denomination of savages that they received from the conquerors, to justify their elimination, until they were almost completely exterminated. In what is now Dosquebradas politically, a family of Quimbayas called Putamaes initially inhabited, hunters, warlike and only friends of their neighbors for the exchanges established by the Quimbayas.
These ancestors lived on the slopes and hills that surround the Dosquebradas valley, which was rich in waters and wild vegetation, typical of the climate.
If the Chibcha civilization is called that of corn, that of the Quimbayas can be called that of guadua, and that of the Putamaes in particular, that of gold.
The inhabitants of Dosquebradas on its hills, observed the plain sown with guadua in the middle of the endless lagoons of its Valley, lagoons originated by the continuous overflow of its multiple streams and streams caused by its abundant hydrographic wealth and its high fluvial precipitation that in turn It once caused the natives to seek refuge on the slopes and hills that border it.
Already in 1948 the first glimpses of industrialization were glimpsed and the construction of the building of the La Rosa grocery factory began, by the American company Grace Line, Two years later the Paños Omnes factory. Property of Compañía de Tejidos de lana Omnes S.A. from the world-renowned cloth producer P. Cía. Teoulemonde, settles down in Dosquebradas and begins his assembly.
The Dosquebradas Corregimiento Development Board, which at that time watched over the development of the region, exempts from taxes for a reasonable period of time companies that wish to establish themselves in Dosquebradas, immediately the factories and companies begin to emerge en masse, given their comfort. and strategic location between the golden triangle: Cali, Medellín, Bogotá.
The Dosquebradas district depended geographically and politically on the municipality of Santa Rosa de Cabal, which in turn depended on the Department of Caldas at that time.
Later it became independent from Santa Rosa de Cabal in 1972, given the extreme proximity to the neighboring city of Pereira, it became a satellite city of this capital, a relationship that prevails to this day, and that has given it a more commercial character.
Municipality created as such in 1972. Its territory is crossed by several streams and the San José and Otún rivers, on the latter it crosses the famous César Gaviria Trujillo Viaduct, constituting one of the charms, shared with Pereira, of Dosquebradas. There are several striking points in this place, which given its proximity seems a neighborhood in the capital of the department. The lake La Pradera, the heights of La Cruz, del Nudo; La Popa-Turin viewpoints and La Badea pink area are part of those emblematic places in this northeast area of Risaralda.
It is a Colombian municipality in the department of Risaralda, neighboring the capital city of the department (communicated through the César Gaviria Trujillo Viaduct), Pereira. Dosquebradas is the second city of the department and one of the main industrial centers of Colombia. It has a population of approximately 200,000 inhabitants. The name of the city is due to the existence of two rivers: Santa Teresita and Las Garzas. Given its proximity to the capital of the department and the presence of a good number of stables, discotheques and recreation sites, the Badea sector in Dosquebradas is known as the pink zone of Pereira, this sector has similar characteristics to the road to La Calera in Bogotá.
The educational sector is quite prominent, being the city of the department with the best official schools. Four educational centers are private of which three are Catholic.
Public Transportation and Mass Transportation (Megabus) from the city of Pereira also arrive to the municipality of Dosquebradas.
Dos Quebradas is a cradle city for artists in the Region. There is a great cultural and artistic diversity (Theater, Dance, Writers, Painting, Sculpture, Origami, and currently an unusual development in Cinema and Audiovisual.
With the presence of the Swiss Jane Chaplin, daughter of the famous Charlie Chaplin and Oona Oneil, the first version of the DosQuebradas Film Festival was held in November 2006, which reached its first five years in 2010.
