The Grande Arc de la Défense is a 112-meter-tall hollowed-out cube covered in white marble and open in the center, supported by 12 30-foot pillars each.
Made in 1989 by the time of the bicentennial of the French Revolution according to a project by the Danish architect Otto von Spreckelsen, it symbolizes a window open to the world.
