Ceremonial center of pyramidal shape from pre-Inca times with a museum on site that exhibits artifacts found in the place.
The tombs of the huaca Huallamarca cover an incredible period that goes from the 3rd century AD to the advent of the Incas in the 15th century. Apparently, Huallamarca was a ceremonial center whose use was perhaps restricted to a priestly elite, since the discovered floors show little wear. A long sequence of uses and abandoned of this center reveals how the funeral customs were changing.
In the district of San Isidro there is an important archaeological complex, although smaller: Huallamarca or Pan de Azúcar, a stepped pyramid made of adobes with an impressive access ramp.

During the Early Intermediate period the deceased were buried face up, stretched out on reed litters. By the 6th century AD the dead were placed in a flexed, fetal position and wrapped with fine cloth. Thus, during the last stages of the Middle Horizon (epochs 3 and 4) the individuals were wrapped in bundles accompanied by a false head, a kind of masks made of cloth or wood with paint.
