It was inaugurated in 1947, on land reclaimed from the Río de la Plata. Its name is a tribute to the pioneer of Argentine aeronautics, Jorge Newbery.
It is owned by the government of the city of Buenos Aires, and is concessioned to the company Aeropuertos Argentina 2000. It has an exclusive military sector and, until a few years ago, an Aeronautical Museum. This was transferred to the Morón Airport. [1]
More than 350 daily flights are made to various cities in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. They also operate private flights, air taxi, charters to various destinations.
Aeroparque only serves national flights and some regional ones. For international and regional flights, there is the Ministro Pistarini International Airport in the town of Ezeiza. It is located 38 km from this airport.
Jorge Newbery Metropolitan Airport (FAA: AER - IATA: AEP - OACI: SABE) is the national and regional airport for the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area, in Argentina.
Currently an ambitious megaproject is underway and filling works began a month ago in the Río de la Plata to run the avenue several meters, which will allow to extend the southern head of the Aeroparque. The future layout of the avenue will not cut the length of the runway, minimizing the possibility that a clueless aircraft will hit a car on its way.
