It is already referenced by this name in documents of the century. XII, although to its superior section was given the old name of Street of the Infesta. Along its route we find several architectural testimonies of its past: the Convent of Santa Clara, Casa do Arco, Casa dos Peixotos and the Gothic House of Valadares, and many others that give it its own identity and characteristics in the city of Guimarães .

It was one of the first open streets in Guimarães, as it was intended to be a link between the convent founded by Mumadona, surrounded by the lower part of the village, and the Castle located in the upper part of the village.
