The old Municipality of Belgrano used to work here. The Municipal House was designed by the architect Juan A. Buschiazzo in front of the General Belgrano square and on the centenary of the death of the hero, on September 11, 1938, it was transformed into the Sarmiento Museum. The museum's rooms recreate the multifaceted personality of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, educator, journalist, writer, diplomat and military man.
The museum in general shows objects belonging to Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, Nicolás Avellaneda and some of the congressmen who attended the Congress of Belgrano in 1880.

The books, furniture, diplomas, letters, crockery, oil paintings, sculptures, watercolors, carvings, miniatures and other personal objects that accompanied Sarmiento throughout his life were donated by his grandchildren.
