Its geology is due to the outcrop of a volcanic lava resulting from the tectonic movement that formed the Lima Trench (a 5,070-meter deep sea abyss, located west of the Ventanilla beaches). The main source that recharges the Wetlands is the Chillón River. Here we find a variety of wild fauna, their conservation is not only recreational but ecotourism potential, and motivates a responsible environmental conservation. It has 12 water mirrors, of which 3 are artificial and the rest are natural. It has an open ecosystem that receives, retains and releases nutrients that come from the continent and the sea.



It is located in the western center of the Ventanilla district, next to the Costa Azul beach, the Defensores de la Patria human settlement and the new citadel of Pachacútec. It has an area of ​​366 hectares (declared as an intangible ecological area by agreement of Council No. 016-98 of the Municipality of Ventanilla, in total it has 578 hectares of extension) and is surrounded by low hills belonging to the Pampa de Ventanilla and the Cerro Salinas and Los Perros.



Beyond the issue of beautification, the Ventanilla Wetlands are important because they constitute transit stations for migratory birds. They are also home to important species of wildlife and plant communities. They also act as a great water regulator.
