The Abílio Barreto Historical Museum is a museum located in Belo Horizonte.
Inaugurated on February 18, 1943 under the name Museu Histórico de Belo Horizonte, when it was mayor Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira, the Museu Histórico Abílio Barreto received this name in honor of the historian Abílio Barreto.
The museum's physical space is divided between two buildings and one interconnecting them. The first is the old mansion that was the headquarters of Fazenda do Leitão, still in the old Curral Del Rey, built by the curralense José Candido Lúcio da Silveira around 1883. Interconnecting the two buildings that comprise the museum, there is a garden with centenary trees and a tram that used to travel around Belo Horizonte.
The most recent part is comprised in a contemporary building designed (1994/98), by the architect Álvaro Hardy, or simply Veveco, together with Mariza Coelho. In this building are exposed photos of the changes suffered in the urban landscape of Belo Horizonte, of the monuments erected to people who stood out in the capital of Minas Gerais, contemporary portraits of the city including photos of the peripheral region.

Unlike traditional collections, this action is done through the collection and systematization of information.
