The first groups to populate the area were dedicated to hunting, fishing and gathering.

Nomadic terrestrial hunters based their diet on steppe animals such as the guanaco and the rhea; While other groups used canoes to navigate, they fished and hunted forest animals such as the huemul and small mammals. Both developed a strong bond with the land, a central thought in their relationship with the environment.

Around 1600, through the mountain range, the white man arrived from the trans-Andean territories as part of slave expeditions, evangelizing missions (17th century) or on exploratory trips (18th century). The travelers encountered Tehuelche and Araucanian groups, which significantly transformed their population dynamics and ways of life after the 17th century. These groups incorporated new resources (apples, horses, sheep, cultivating some seeds, etc.), made strategic alliances among themselves, reduced their mobility and shared the language.

The Campaign to the desert (1879-1883) caused the disarticulation of the indigenous peoples. Later, settlers from both sides of the mountain range settled in the region. Juan O'Connor was the first owner of the southern part of the peninsula, the lands were later acquired by the Lynch family, where they built a tea house to promote the place among their friends.

It is accessed through Lake Nahuel Huapi, from Puerto Pañuelo in Bariloche and from Bahías La Mansa and La Brava in Villa La Angostura.

By land you can reach Villa la Angostura by national routes numbers 237 and 231 from the city of San Carlos de Bariloche and 234 from San Martín de los Andes.

In the myrtle forest you will find a confectionery and toilets for your comfort.
