This town is also known by the name of ´´the mountain jewel´´. It is located on the southern course of the Segura River, in a landscape dominated by cultivated fields and undulations of the land, surrounded by splendid nature. Its urban center hides beautiful corners, and in its surroundings we can enjoy hunting and fishing.
Férez is bathed by the Segura River, whose passage is facilitated by two bridges, one in the village of Alcantalilla de Jover, currently bathed by the waters of the Cenajo reservoir, and the other that of Hijar.
In its plain of olive and almond trees are born several sources that contribute their waters to different streams, which converge in the Molino de la Mora.
The foothills of these mountains were dedicated to the exploitation of esparto. This has had a long tradition in Férez, considering itself an almost native plant of the region.
Its urban center maintains the Arab trace, with that air that the long period of Muslim domination left in these lands.
From its time when the Order of Santiago ruled the town, there are still some stately facades with a Castilian air scattered throughout the urban area that denote a splendid past of its medieval times, not wanting its memory to fall into oblivion.
The town itself was designed for the defense of it and as its name indicates in the time of Romanos Frez who called it that way, it means fortress or fortress.
The names of the streets depend on their function:
Calle Orden: the town's membership of the Order of Santiago
Cantarería Street: where jugs were built to transport water.
Calle de la Torre: existing at the top of the street, which was part of the Férez fortress.
Santa Ana Street: receives its name in honor of the hermitage located there.
Arrabal Street was, in the Middle Ages, a neighborhood that was located on the edge of the fortress, where the Jewish or Mozarabic population lived.
Férez is located in the Sierra del Segura, in the south of the province of Albacete. It covers an area of 125.83 km2 and is at a distance of 115 km from Albacete. ´´The mountain jewel´´, which is also known as this town, is located south of the Segura riverbed, in a landscape dominated by cultivated fields and undulations of the terrain. Its urban center hides beautiful corners and maintains that Arab mark that the long period of Muslim domination left in these lands. Its streets are narrow and offer secluded corners where you can feel all that medieval atmosphere.
