The first known human presence of Formentera is in the Ciudad del Bronce, when the megalithic tomb of Ca was built on the Coast, closed in the 17th century. After a time in which it remained unpublished, remains of the past of the cultures, Punic and Roman.
There is no reference to the island being seen after the Visigod invasions, but at least since the 11th century, during the Arab occupation, the island had a stable population, due to the remains of the people, wells and beds of this epoch.
The Catalan troops of Jaime I of Aragon, under the command of Guillem de Montgrí, conquered the Pitiusas in 1235, which were incorporated into the Kingdom of Mallorca. Formentera was still inhabited by Saracens, according to the Book of Facts.
Following the expulsion of the Muslim settlement, the attempt to establish a permanent settlement on the island; the harshness of the island and the insecurity caused by the incursions of Berberiscus were fined, in the last years of the fourteenth century, what is known as the first repopulation. The Roman hermitage of "Sa Tanca Vella" in Sant Francesc, built in 1336, is from this period.
During the rest of the Media City and the Renaissance, Forment was populated only occasionally by inhabitants of the island of Ibiza.

It was in 1695 when the definitive repopulation of the island took place, carried out by Ibizans; the donation of a part of the island to the Ibizan Marc Ferrer, under payment for the services rendered. A few years later, in 1726, the first church in Formentera was built, dedicated to Sant Francesc, built as a fortress that could take refuge from pirate attacks. Some defense and watchtowers along the coast complement the island's defensive system and convince the second final repopulation. With the passage of time a small population nucleus began to be created around the churches that were built, although the majority of the population has always been dispersed in small country houses. The middle of the 18th century basin in the town of Formentera was made up of four people and at the end of the 19th century the island of one thousand inhabitants.
