Guests at Lodge On The Lake and Wellness Spa can also relax in the central lounge area and gaze out onto the infinity pool and the expanse of the lake beyond. Known as the Eden of the southern coast of South Africa, Wilderness is set between the Kaaimans River and the Goukama Nature Reserve, at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains. Renowned for its tranquil sea and beaches, Wilderness is also surrounded by many rivers and natural lakes and lagoons, making it a great destination for water-sports.
Wilderness is home to many types of wildlife, in particular birds, making it ideal for bird-watchers. Other local activities include dolphin and whale-watching, hang-gliding, paragliding, horse-riding, mountain-biking, hiking, scenic drives, angling, boating and other water-sports.
The small village also has a newly built shopping area designed around the existing milkwood forest. This provides restaurants, shops and a lively Friday night craft market. Up the hill, the famous Map of Africa viewpoint offers fantastic views of the Kaaimans River Valley and a virtually unrivalled ocean vista. Thalgo finds its origins in the intense mineral wealth of the sea found in seaweeds, mud, algae and sea salt.
