The new Pangue Observatory is an ambitious project, which aims to become one of the most important offers in the world on the subject of astronomical night tourism. What makes this observatory special is concrete and unique: a world-class observatory run by qualified astronomers, located at the end of the world, specifically in an oasis of privileged citizens, a characteristic suitable for the contemplation of luminous stars.



The new Pangue Observatory is located 1500m above sea level, in the interior of the Elqui Valley, 17km east of the city of Vicuña and 80km east of La Serena, the regional capital. The area is located 500km north of Chile's capital Santiago.



By plane

The fastest way to get to the Valleys is by air through La Serena.

By bus

There are daily departures from the Coquimbo Bus Terminal (Avenida Varela 1300) and La Serena Bus Terminal (Amunátegui s / n). There is a stop at Calle Esmeralda s / nº, Plaza de Abastos, between the so-called Juan de Dios Pení and Colo Colo.



By car

If you travel by car, you will travel from the north of Chile, taking Ruta 5 Norte.



If you are traveling from La Serena you should take Avenida Francisco de Aguirre, heading east, to continue along Calle Larraín Alcalde, Juan de Dios Pení and Cisternas. From this last street, take Avenida 18 de Septiembre, to start the route that leads to the Elqui Valley. There is a proper sign for walking. The distance from La Serena to Vicuña is 62 km., Trip achievable in one hour.





But the highlight is the quality of the local city, a happy result of a combination of the absence of light pollution and favorable local weather. An advantage is also the geographic latitude of 30 ° south, which makes this perfect place to observe the exclusive cells of the Southern Hemisphere.
