Picsi has a very noteworthy history, especially if the population is enigmatic. Picsi was a population grouping from the time of Cinto and Collique, which marked the place where later the Spanish founded the town of San Miguel de Picsi, which is the same that appears registered in 1593 which later on November 6, 1641 is donated by its owner, Doña Juana de Carvajal, to the Trujillo school.

Picsi is the town, which after being a small population group, is reinforced by the residents saved from the disaster of the ´´Pequeña Potosí´´, Zaña, with which a more consistent town is built. The new Picsi, which lies forgotten in the plains of a hill where the cemetery apparently stands triumphant, arises as a consequence of the immigration of the old Picsi, who was struck by the epidemic disease called ´´repelusa´´, this town arises at the end of the 17th century, populated by the black race who, due to their strength, overcame the epidemic, a town of Picseño that has no more importance than that of understanding large estates, which in 1920 was a town of a few years old of scattered ranches where up to 150 people lived .

According to research, through Municipal Resolution No. 13-91, the date of political creation of the District of Picsi is established on November 12, 1823 and adopts the Picsi script, using ´´CS´´, the creation of the symbols of the District, through Municipal Agreement No. 067-91- CMP of 09-18-91 (District Flag, Shield and National Anthem).

On January 29, 1998 and published in the Official Gazette EL PERUANO on the 31st of the same month, Law No. 26921, which creates in the Lambayeque Region, five new Districts, including Tumán and Pátapo, which for a long time belonged to Pisci, reducing the budget economy of this District, because the former cooperatives were the main taxpayers of Picsi.

Picsi is located in the Province of Chiclayo, Lambayeque Region, 8.5 km from the city of Chiclayo and the same as the Province of Ferreñafe, it is located between the coordinates 6 ° 43´00´´, South Latitude and 7946´03 ´´ West Longitude, with an altitude of 40 meters above sea level between the basins of the Chancay and Taymi rivers.

To date, it is not known exactly what word the word PICSI comes from, but information from the oldest inhabitants of the place and studies carried out by some historians and even studies carried out by the Poet Alfonso Tello Marchena, refer that the word PICSI comes from:

SIQUI: Piques

Meaning: Butt with spikes.

It should be noted that the Picsi District has an archaeological complex consisting of a set of 06 primordial mounds located to the North-East of Picsi, the Capital City of the District, which in 1989 was the object of an archaeological intervention by the Brüning Museum, the lifting and elaboration of a perimetric topographic plan in contour lines, these pyramid mounds are defined as follows:

The Cemetery Complex

El Medano craft complex

Dry Forest called El Medano with species of flora and fauna in extinction

Huaca Temoche

Huaca Oeste

Huaca de Monte Alegre

Huaca del Pueblo

Huaca Alcan
