The Parish Church of Tarata is one of the oldest in the Tacna region. It was inaugurated on January 3, 1741, where the image of Saint Benedict is venerated. It is distinguished by its two tall towers. The parish or doctrine of San 8enedict was established in 1613. The first baptismal certificate is dated March 29, 1613.

San Benedicto Abad de Tarata Parish It was founded on January 29, 1613, the first parish priest was Father Miranda Valcárcel, for 30 years Father Leopoldo Rosas Escobedo remained as parish priest, whom people remember with special affection for his selflessness and generous dedication to his brothers. For 9 years the parish has not had a priest. Thus, on May 28, 1992, the missionary sisters of Santa Teresita del Niño Jesús arrived, who assumed the evangelizing task throughout the province of Tarata.
